| I'm not one hundred percent sure im taking care of my ears properly. I have them stretched to 3/4's of an inch (19mm i think?) so i thought id post and get a professionals opinion on my methods. I take my plugs out before i shower, and let them soak in hydrogen peroxide (plastic plugs) and i wash my lobes in the shower like i was the rest of my body (with body wash) and if i dont do that, i wash them with unscented, not antibacterial soap. before i put my plugs back in, i put curel lotion on my lobes (unscented). its the ultra healing kind. | |

| Dude, don't use peroxide, soak them in a sea salt/water mix. Oils like jojoba, emu oil, vitamin e etc. are really good for your lobes, recommend using them instead of curel | |

| I agree, Peroxide is no good, Vitamin E massages, and sleeping with your plus out is brilliant for keeping ears thick.

| instead of soaking your plugs in peroxide, try just washing them with antibacterial soap. | |

someone once told me not to use antibacterial soap, now he could have just been talking about for my lobes, but does anyone else know anything about this?

| as long as it's like, mild soap I don't think that it could do any damage to your ear or plugs | |

| if i'm not mistaken, you're mostly just not supposed to use antibacterial soap on piercings. if your ears are healed and everything, i don't see how washing your jewelry with it could hurt. | |

someone once told me not to use antibacterial soap, now he could have just been talking about for my lobes, but does anyone else know anything about this? Hydrogen peroxide isn't a good choice for ears because it irritates the tissue more than the benefits of cleaning it. I wouldn't recommend it for cleaning acrylic jewelry because I have no idea whether it is good for the acrylic, although I know it's acceptable in use with metals like steel or gold. An antibacterial soap shouldn't harm the jewelry or your ears and would come with fewer worries. I would also recommend switching from lotion to oils like jojoba or vitamin E, simply because they're more accepted by the piercing community. I don't have a lot of solid reasoning to back that one, it's just what most people are comfortable with. I use Holey Butt'r, never had a problem with it and my ears are soft, supple, and stretchy.

| Anything you use to clean your jewelry is likely to end up inside your piercing. I clean mine with whatever I'm putting on my piercings at the time, usually jojoba oil, saline or chamomile. | |
